Doctoral Centers at Hochschule Darmstadt
The right to award doctorates is exercised in dedicated doctoral centres, which pool research expertise and facilitate new forms of academic collaboration. The networking of different disciplines creates an inter- and transdisciplinary environment that opens up a wide range of academic perspectives for doctoral candidates. At the same time, universities of applied sciences can specifically contribute their particular strengths in applied research and utilise them for the further development of early-career researchers.
The quality of doctoral procedures is ensured by high standards, such as the separation of supervision and assessment within the procedures.
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences holds independent doctoral authority in three different research-intensive disciplines: Applied Computer Science, Sustainability Sciences and Social Work.
The Doctoral Centre Applied Computer Sciences is a joint academic institution run by the four Hessian universities of applied sciences (HAW): Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. The Doctoral Centre’s administrative office is based at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.
The Doctoral Centre Sustainability Sciences is the first to be run independently by h_da. Sustainability sciences bring together various academic and research disciplines to generate insights into social, socio-economic, engineering (or technical) and natural science challenges.
The Doctoral Centre Social Work is a joint research institution of the four Hessian universities of applied sciences (HAW): Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. The Doctoral Centre is based at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, where its administrative office is also located.
