Cooperative doctoral platforms

Hochschule Darmstadt and Technische Universität Darmstadt have agreed on deeper cooperation and institutionalisation of cooperative doctorates. Cooperative doctorates are doctorates that are carried out at the relevant department of TU Darmstadt with the participation of professors of the Hochschule Darmstadt as supervisors and referees. Graduates of TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt are equally eligible for this doctoral programme. For the joint implementation of these doctorates subject-specific doctoral platforms are set-up.

This notwithstanding, cooperative doctorates with TU Darmsttadt are also possible outside of the platforms.

Platforms details

The platforms offer comparable doctoral conditions and common training elements as well as regulated access for students and professors alike. Members of the subject-specific platforms are professors of TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt as well as cooperatively supervised doctoral students of TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt. Professors from Hochschule Darmstadt are involved in the procedures as supervisors and referees. Cooperative doctoral researchers thus have two supervisors, one at TU Darmstadt and one at h_da.

The platforms were set up as part of a project, funded by the HMWK, the Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts (duration 2016-2020). The project is anchored in Ingenium, the umbrella organisation for promoting early career researchers at TU Darmstadt. Project partner is Hochschule Darmstadt.

For acceptance for a doctorate at TU Darmstadt, certain admission requirements must be met. These are described in the general doctoral regulations of TU Darmstadt as well as in the specific regulations of the respective department.

Within the framework of the doctoral platforms, doctoral candidates can cooperatively conduct their research both at TU and h_da. The relationship between supervisors and doctoral candidates is reliably and transparently regulated through the conclusion of a supervision agreement.

As part of the cooperation, doctoral students can enrol simultaneously at TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt. Information on enrolment at TU Darmstadt can be found here and for enrolment at Hochschule Darmstadt here.

The doctoral members of the cooperative doctoral platforms have access to a range of extra-curricular support services. Doctoral students can use the offer at both universities to the same extent.
